Volunteer Weekend 10th & 11th August 2019
This August we had our first volunteer weekend to help prepare our site ready for planting in the spring. If you’ve been following us on Instagram you would have seen the amount of work that needs to be done. The week before the volunteer weekend, we had a plot of land. A plot of land covered in grass as tall as me! We walked the site, worried about what we might fall into and what lay beneath the weeds. We spent a couple of days moving large pieces of rubbish, taking them to the tip (I think we are going to be best mates with the people who work there soon!), and strimming down the grass. What lay beneath was the remains of three large raised beds, and some beautiful brick borders and cold frames. We were so excited to see what was there and we could not wait to carry on clearing.
We had an army of gals come and help us over the two days and we couldn’t have been more grateful. They dug, raked, weeded, chopped, and most importantly drank lots of tea! We had volunteers working with us all weekend and even the rain, wind, and grey clouds didn’t stop them. It was such a pleasure to meet so many lovely, like minded people and spend the days working towards a common goal.
We could not have imagined the amount that got done, and we thank everyone who came to help, and who popped in to see what we were up to. Check out the before and after photos below!
If you are interested in joining our next volunteer day, come and join us on Saturday 24th August from 10am-3pm. You can come for as long as you like and do as much, or as little, as you want. Bring tools and gloves if you have them, but don’t worry if you don’t, we’ve got lots of spares. Can’t wait to meet you!
