Plot Preparations

This week we have been spending our days preparing the Bloom Sheffield site ready for our first volunteer weekend. The site has been neglected for many years, and, we think, was used as a storage space by it’s previous tenants. So we’ve been working hard on uncovering it’s contents and clearing away any unwanted items. From our excavation, we have also found some hidden treasures; a brick border suitable for planting, three large, wooden raised beds, and a pretty hefty bay tree!

The site is 310 square meters of mainly grass, with a small orchard at the bottom which will be turned into a wild flower meadow in due time. We want to keep a wild space for insects and animals to thrive. The site also has three large buildings at the top which will be very useful in the coming months when it starts to get colder. The most exciting building being a wooden greenhouse with a brick base. Even though it is missing quite a lot of glass and could do with a good dose of TLC, we are really excited about it’s potential.

The plot has now been strimmed, chopped and raked and is ready for our lovely volunteers joining us this weekend. Please feel free to join us from 10-3pm on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th August 2019 if you are free. Bring a spade if you fancy helping out, or just bring yourself if you just fancy a nosey and a chat. It’ll be great to meet you!
