April Open Day Round-Up

April has been a super productive month at the garden! With lots of lovely new faces coming to have a go and getting stuck into the neverending list of gardening jobs! The tulips are finally up, looking beautiful as ever and our early summer plants are shooting up! At the beginning of April we still had plenty of sowing to do. We sowed some of our favourites and some newbies we haven’t tried before! These should all hopefully be flowering mid to late summer.

We’ve planted out our Nigella - something we’ve always struggled to grow successfully but this year is looking promising!

We also built a new brick border down the side of the plot. I would highly recommend this method to anyone who wants an easy way to make your borders look interesting!!  All you need is a well dug trench and a load of bricks (old & wonky is fine) that just need to be slotted in at a slight angle to give the fallen domino effect.

Our Tulips were out and proud by the end of April and all of our lovely attendees were able to reap the rewards! Oh and let’s not forget the day it started hailing in the middle of the session and it became a whole new task to put up a broken gazebo with no instructions. Then bright sunshine straight afterwards for a victory picture!

Really look forward to what May has to bring as we go deeper into the British flower season and begin to reap the rewards of everyone’s hard work so far! See you then!

If you would like to come to an open day and help out in our community garden, you can sign up here. They are great days intended to help us meet new people, spend time outdoors and try something new. So, come along!
