Therapeutic Gardening Group Leader 

We are looking for a Therapeutic Gardening Group Leader to run our Gardening to Feel Good groups. These groups are for women who have been referred to us from healthcare, or who have self-referred independently. These groups have a focus on mental health and are attended by women who need support managing their mental health needs. For more information or for an informal chat about the role, email Kendall on kendall@bloomsheffield.com.

Role details

Salary: £10.50 per hour

Hours: 15 hours per week, flexible, fixed term until 31st October 2022 (contract extension hopeful but subject to funding)

Location: Our garden is at Heeley and Meersbrook Allotment, S8 9HY and our office is at Meersbrook Enterprise Centre, S8 9FT, although some remote working is possible.

Accountable to: Managing Director

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver and manage three Gardening To Feel Good groups per week

  • Liaise and work closely with the Engagement & Referrals Coordinator to ensure that all attendees have their needs met

  • Measure and evaluate the impact of each group

  • Schedule and supervise any volunteers needed for the groups

Desirable skills and experience

  • Experience of working in a mental health setting and supporting people with mental health needs

  • Experience in leading and facilitating therapeutic groups

  • An interest in gardening and a willingness to learn new skills

  • The ability to manage own time and workload effectively and productively

  • The ability to adapt, be flexible and work closely with a small team

Engagement & Referrals Coordinator

We are looking for an Engagement & Referrals Coordinator who will be responsible for managing and screening referrals and supporting attendees to access our Gardening To Feel Good groups.   • Manage and screen referrals from individuals and healthcare providers

  • Liaise with project partners to programme and organise the Gardening to Feel Good Groups

  • Research and develop new relationships with community groups and charitable organisations in the city

  • Work closely with the Mental Health Group Leader to ensure that all attendees have their needs met

  • Work with attendees to help them access the groups, including providing an introductory visit to the garden, helping them manage public transport and potentially a home visit

  • Conduct progress & signposting meetings with attendees to ensure they can access further support after attending the Gardening to Feel Good Groups

Desirable skills and experience

  • Experience of working in a mental health setting and supporting people with mental health needs

  • Experience or knowledge of Occupational Therapy would be desirable

  • Experience in carrying out initial assessments and identifying barriers to engagement.

  • Confident in collaboratively setting goals with potential attendees.

  • Confident in contacting partners and community organisations by phone and email

  • The ability to manage own time and workload effectively and productively

  • The ability to adapt, be flexible and work closely with a small team
