Gardening To Feel Good Groups - Summer 2022
This summer has been filled with busy bees as we welcomed our second 6 week block of Gardening to Feel Good groups onto the site here at Bloom.
With the beds bursting with colour, a favourite amongst us all has been the gorgeous displays of cornflowers and larkspur, standing tall and greeting us each session. But the real showstopper and talking point has to be the dahlia bed, bursting with several varieties.
The greenhouse has also been bursting with life as the grape vine, tomatoes and cucumbers began creeping up the walls and swelling with ripening tasty fruits. We’ve been enjoying harvesting and sharing out the tomatoes and cucumbers, as well as the blackberries and raspberries scattered around the site. And we are all eagerly awaiting the ripening of the grapes and apples a little later in the summer!
With many of the flowers in the garden having completed their bloom and heading to seed, a big job has been deadheading to encourage a second burst as the summer draws on. Along with collecting seeds, cutting and drying out flowers for creative activities, clearing beds and sowing lots of new biennial seeds for an overwintering/early spring burst of growth.
There have been a few structural developments, with a really generous donation of pallet beds, enabling us to stabilise the structure of the beds at the bottom of the site and create much more growing space. We also managed to gain some lovely rattan furniture and a small table for the quiet space at the bottom of the site. We enjoyed painting the table in one session too!
And of course, we have all enjoyed the continuous joys of picking flowers to take home and keep the colourful burst of Bloom in our sights throughout the week!
If you are interested in joining our Gardening To Feel Good groups, or would like to refer someone to our sessions, please contact Cath on cath@bloomsheffield.com for more information. These groups run for 6 weeks at a time throughout the year. They are small groups and give us the opportunity to work together, meet new people and share skills. If you’re feeling a bit down, or anxious, and feel like some time outdoors doing something productive will make you feel good, come along! These groups are for everyone.
