Gardening To Feel Good Groups 2025 🌱
When we have a lot going on in our lives, or we are feeling anxious, low or a little lost, being outside in nature can really make a difference to how we feel. Our Gardening to Feel Good groups help give you the time and space to escape day-to-day life and spend time outside with others who may be feeling the same way.
Gardening, especially with other people, is beneficial in so many ways - it improves our confidence, self-esteem, concentration levels and feelings of being connected whilst lowering our stress levels and boosting our mood. It can bring a little peace and calm, which is so important for us all. The groups are small and relaxed two hour sessions running over an eight week block at the same time each week. We run the groups at ‘Baby Bloom’. This is our original community garden - a small allotment plot in Meersbrook & Heeley allotments where we grow flowers.
You will be welcomed and supported by friendly faces - the group facilitator and a volunteer who will make sure you settle in, feel comfortable and get what you need from the sessions. We work together in the garden, and you can do as much or as little as you like. If you fancy getting stuck in to some bigger jobs, we always have plenty of digging and shovelling to do, along with lots of gentler tasks like seed sowing and potting on seedlings. Every week we will have a quieter creative option too - maybe painting some signs or making some dried flower posies to take home and enjoy. If you prefer to just sit, drink tea and enjoy being in the garden, that is absolutely fine too - the garden is for you to enjoy in the way that you need.
You can come along whether you have no experience at all, or you are a keen gardener - we all learn from each other and share our skills and ideas. We provide all the tools and equipment you will need - you just need to bring yourself, some good sturdy footwear and the right clothes for the weather!
We understand that it can be a big step coming along to a group like this, and that you may feel nervous, worried or have some questions. We will do our best to make sure that you feel at home. We can chat on the phone to get to know you, help with any worries or queries, and talk through things in more detail, or we can meet you at the garden before the group starts so you can have a look around.
Our groups will start in March 2025 on Wednesday afternoons from 1-3 pm, and we will be adding more groups as we go into the spring and summer months. It is really easy to refer yourself to our groups - you will find a self referral form to complete on our website here, we just need a few details and then we will be in touch. If you are a professional and someone you are working with would like to attend, there is a quick and easy professionals referral form on our website. If you have any questions at all or just want to find out more you can email rosy@bloomsheffield.com and she will get back to you.
We are really looking forward to spending time with you in our garden.
